At the most basic psychological level it is about loss, personal loss and losing out on something. As "adults" we must learn to successfully navigate these periodic separations and losses. Although telling a joke about another human, who is suffering, may seem inconsiderate and, perhaps, even largely unfair, IT IS NOT ILLEGAL. If would be up to the Academy of Oscars, and not me, to determine whether Chris Rock's actions violated any of the Academy's codes of conduct. But again, Chris Rock is a stand-up comedian and that is what some comedians do, roast other people. Perhaps you are in conflict with Chris Rock's person, as a character, as a comedian, to be FREE and equal to make creative determinations of the mind. This, on the most basic sense of human philosophy, is only illegal when reputations are ruined. Jada's reputation, in opinion my opinion, was not ruined. She is doing fine on her own in that area. So, Chris Rock's actions were not illegal, not even by the Academy's standards.

We do not live in solitude, on islands remotely cut-off. This means that sometimes we must suffer some one else's opinions, no matter how harsh they may be. Just because someone said something we don't like, or even agree with, this does not give someone the green light to retaliate with violence. Resorting to that action IS illegal.

Studying violence and violent culture, one soon quickly discovers that violence is an acceptable solution to conflict with in some family cultures. This is part of the problem with cultural legitimacy of violence. It also places families at the very center because of domestic violence and intimate partner violence. Women and children who are predominantly at the receiving end of physical assaults.

FYI, Donald Trump was never SUCCESSFULLY impeached which kinda sends a message for the importance of the 1st amendment.
